Group Classes
Wedding essesntials Group Class
Learn how to survive, thrive and not embarrass yourselves on the dance floor. This class will give you some basic steps so you and your spouse can have a short dance before inviting others to join you and dance the night away.
The class will cover some basic steps and a dip to finish before giving you a chance to practice what you have learnt. It is a complete lesson so you are ready for your big day. It is also an excellent way to get a glimpse of what happens in our private classes before committing yourself to those and a more detailed routine. It’s even just a space to ask silly questions and have a laugh together.
Also great for bridal parties and attendants or father-daughter/mother-son dances.
This class is held monthly on a Friday at 7pm with Kim. (Due to popular demand, a few extra classes have been scheduled for Spring!)
$50 per couple!
24hrs notice is required to reschedule your booking!
Wedding Crash Course - 4 weeks over August!
Join our founder Jo for a 4 week group course to learn how to dance with style on your Big Day! Monday nights at 8.30pm throughout August is now booked out!
So we’ve added in a September course for anyone that missed out!
Week 1 is similar to our Wedding Essentials class. You’ll learn to sway without stepping on each others feet, how to do a basic underarm turn, a dip (you can’t have a first dance without a dip!) and if you’re feeling brave, a simple lift!
Weeks 2 and 3 will be learning how to lead and follow a few nice turn combinations so you’re able to fill a whole song, and putting everything you’ve learnt so far to various types of music so you look comfortable and confident dancing together.
Week 4, we will work on each couples chosen song to make everything you’ve learnt suit it perfectly. We will learn a few options for your entrance onto the dancefloor and how to bow at the end of the dance. We will also practice doing a mid aisle dip for the end of your ceremony.
Please note - there are no make up sessions for this short course, you must be able to attend all 4! Places are strictly limited to just 5 couples! just $200 per couple.
Ballroom Babies
Ballroom Babies is a fun, interactive class for parents and babies from 6 weeks-walking!
Having a new bundle of joy in your life is the most precious time. It can also be a pretty tough time, socially, mentally and physically. The aim of this class is to provide you with a chance to exercise your brain (the timing and directions in all the latin combinations is a great brain workout!), a chance to get back into movement and fitness in a gentle way (crunches and burpee free zone), and a chance to meet other new parents in the area, all whilst holding your baby close so you’re not missing out on a single precious moment!
During the class the parent has their baby snuggled in close in a carrier. We dance to Latin rhythms with the instructor up the front leading the way. Parents will be taught basic steps in 4 of the Latin dances (Rumba, Cha cha, Bachata and Salsa). Babies often go to sleep, especially during the cha cha!
The benefits are wide and varying for both parents and babies. For grown ups, its fitness, learning something new, and meeting other parents. And for the babies, the development for their wee brains are immeasurable. It’s also a positive bonding experience for you together.
Every Thursday at 11am. This is a casual class, as we understand how often sleepless nights and appointments affect your ability to come every single week! This class can be booked via the first dance kids website!
Millennial Dance Fitness
Millennial Dance Fitness is a class that any grown ups (not just parents) can join to get fit whilst reliving the music of our youth!
If you love doing the macarena and wish you could still remember all the video clips from around the turn of the millennium, this class is for you. Its a bit about fitness, but mostly about fun!
We warm up with a couple of simple repetitive dances that you’ll remember, then we will do a few targeted exercises to other classic hits involving just our own bodyweight, and sometimes some light dumbbells. Next we will learn one of the routines from a video clip you definitely watched over and over on Video Hits 25 years ago before having a stretch to cool down!
No dance experience needed, just come and join the fun! The Friday lunchtime class is also open to any new parents wearing their baby in a carrier, a few things will be adjusted for baby wearers to accommodate you in this class!
Fridays at 12pm, or Thursdays at 7pm. This is a casual class so you can come and go as you please!
This class can be booked via our First Dance Kids website.
